We absolutely loved our stay at Dar 7 Louyat! Sufiyan was the perfect host, making us feel welcome and at home, and the two women who cooked and served our breakfasts were delightful. The approach to the riad is daunting at first -- the alley of seven turns -- but then it became second nature to make our way home. And as you enter the riad -- the magnificent central courtyard greets you and embraces you. Our room was comfortable -- we loved the beautiful green tile in the bathroom! -- the shower was hot, the rooftop terrace was a lovely peaceful place to relax, to have breakfast, to listen to the wonderful quiet of the medina surrounding, and the birdsong. The location of the riad in the medina was perfect -- a quiet remove, but still very central. This riad is a beautifully restored tall home with a gorgeous roof top terrace to enjoy breakfast (and dinner if not downstairs). Many original wood carvings remain and new tile has been done in a way to blend with the original tiles. All that in a home that has all the modern amenities. The best air-conditioning we experienced during our trip, great water pressure in the shower, super-comfy bed. The room was spacious too. There may be other beautiful riads in Fes but the people here really made it stand out, starting with Sofyan who was so attentive, helpful and communicated with us throughout and prior to our arrival, anytime we were looking to coordinate transport or tours, who was very present and great to chat with during our stay. And Fatima’s and Rashida’s cooking was truly the best Moroccan cuisine we had! Each dish tasty with a variety of spices to distinguish the dishes they served, with the meat so soft. We opted for two of our three dinners at the riad because of their cooking. They also served up a copious and varied breakfasts with excellent strong coffee! And always with a smile and good humor. The location of the riad is on a quieter more local side of town which personally we liked as it felt a little more “real” although still busy, with a fair amount of tourists, and full of life. We enjoyed wandering through the medina tremendously and after a couple of walks had our bearings. Note that although there is no elevator there are two beautiful large rooms at the ground level as well. We hope to be back. The riad is beautiful and tucked away down a maze of tiny streets which made it feel like an adventure getting there for the first time (but was quite easy to find thereafter!). The staff could not have made us or our children feel more welcome and the food was delicious and always served with a genuine smile. The guide that was organised by the riad to take us around the medina was brilliant. I was fortunate enough to stay here for four weeks. Everything about my time was perfect. Firstly the Riad itself is beautiful, traditional, spotlessly clean, quiet, lovely terrace, hugely comfortable bed, a well stocked library and in a great location. The food was of a high standard, lovingly prepared, delicious and extremely generous portions. However it was the staff who made my trip so exceptional and memorable. I was traveling alone but was made to feel part of their family. My daily questions were answered and I gained an incredible insight into the local life and the culture of Fez. I cannot think of any negatives. I feel exceptionally privileged and lucky to have found this amazing place. We had an amazing time exploring the medina where it's located as often as we liked and for as long or short as we likes since we were in the middle of it. We didn't have to take a taxi here each time. Then when we were tired from the walking, photo-taking, shopping, etc. we could come up onto the beautiful rooftop terrace with views of the entire medina, and more -- or relax in the lounge room on the soft sofas. The breakfasts are delicious, and we found it was an amazing experience to request dinner prepared here every night. The staff, especially Reda and Younis were incredible - they take such good care of you and become your friends (when do you guys sleep!?). We had a wonderful time, and would recommend staying here to ENHANCE your experience in Morroco. Other details, the bathroom was spacious, extremely clean, we had wonderful water pressure and hot water for showers -- we weren't sure what to expect in such an old part of town :-) · We had nothing we didn't like at all! Our hotel arranged for a taxi to be waiting for us at the airport. Then there was a cart waiting to bring us to Dar 7 Louyat. Dar 7 Louyat is located in the old Medina. Rich with history. Dar 7 Louyat is in it self an oasis. Stunning to see and a pleasure to rest our bones from the long walks of the day. We were greeted by Soufiane Dayi. A well informed and charming expert at Dar 7 Louyat. He was very friendly and helpful to us. He helped us set up very reasonable excursions during our stay. Arranged dinners at Dar 7 Louyat and even took a request from us for a dinner. The staff at Dar 7 Louyat were most reliable and friendly. There are fruit drink specials that are freshly made and they are delicious. I especially loved the Lemon Mint drink. So refreshing. We were in the roof top room which was exquisite.
