SAVOIR-VIVRE À FÈS

Fez is a very traditional city.

Religion is at the heart of daily life, punctuated by the calls of the muezzin and the temporary closure of stores for prayer.

Fundamentalism or "Islamism" remains very much in the minority and hardly visible in the medina.

But if Muslims welcome the "People of the Book", Jews and Christians, because of their presence within the sacred text of the Koran, it's on the basis of a number of a priori shared values.

What's more, dar 7 Louyat is located very close to the great Qarayouine Mosque and the mausoleum of Moulay Idriss. It is therefore a quasi-sacred area.

This means that many behaviors, sometimes commonplace in secularized societies, are likely to come as a shock here.

The most important thing is to stick to the basic (and universal) rules of decency and respect for others.

It's up to each individual to deduce useful recommendations in terms of dress and general behavior.

It goes without saying that excesses of all kinds should be avoided, such as excessive or public drinking, and anything approaching indecent exposure.
