A living heritage: between traditional architecture and the art of Moroccan well-being

Dar 7 Louyat and Riad Hanael, both located in the heart of the Fès medina, are much more than just places to stay. They embody a living heritage, deeply rooted in the history and traditions of Morocco. Originally, these two establishments formed a single dwelling. Today, they are still linked, respecting their ancestral configuration, and this continuity ensures that the soul of the place lives on: a Moroccan home where hospitality, architectural beauty and well-being go hand in hand.

Thanks to a family partnership with the Riad Hanael team, our guests enjoy privileged access to an exceptional wellness area: a spa, a traditional hammam, a refreshing pool (subject to availability and a modest fee), and a range of treatments including relaxing massages, scrubs and body treatments. All these services are available on reservation, and can be planned in advance online, for an experience perfectly integrated into your stay.

But far more than a simple moment of relaxation, what we offer our guests is a real return to our roots. An immersion in the world of well-being as it has been lived for centuries in Morocco, with its rituals, precise gestures, natural scents and profound effects on both body and mind.

Moroccan architecture for calm and rejuvenation

The architecture of Dar 7 Louyat and Riad Hanael is a tribute to Moroccan art de vivre. Shaded patios, colorful zelliges, carved cedar ceilings, babbling fountains, subdued lighting filtering through the moucharabiehs: everything is designed to create an atmosphere of serenity, conducive to relaxation. These homes have been restored with the utmost respect for traditional know-how. Every detail, from the tadelakt on the walls to the hand-painted wooden doors, is a reminder that these places were designed from the outset to welcome people into a harmonious, balanced and soothing environment.

The hammam and spa area fit naturally into this architecture. They are not modern additions, but a logical continuation of the traditional Moroccan home, where well-being was an integral part of domestic life. In those days, every large house in the medina had its own small family hammam, used regularly by its inhabitants. We wanted to revive this tradition by opening it up to today's visitors.

The Moroccan hammam: an age-old purification ritual

The hammam is much more than a steam bath. It's a true ritual of purification, rooted in the history and culture of the Maghreb for centuries. Heir to Roman thermal baths and Ottoman baths, it has established itself throughout the Islamic world as a sacred space for cleanliness, rejuvenation and social bonding. In Morocco, the hammam occupies a central place in daily life: people come here to wash, of course, but also to reconnect with themselves, exchange ideas and refocus.

In our hammam, we invite our guests to relive this ritual in all its authenticity: a warm, humid room where steam gently permeates the body, opening the pores and preparing the skin for treatment. This is followed by soaping with black soap, rich in vitamin E and made from crushed black olives - a natural product with exceptional purifying properties. This is followed by exfoliation with a traditional glove called a "kessa", which gently removes dead cells, stimulates blood circulation and restores radiance and softness to the skin.

This moment of care, often accompanied by silence or murmurs, is also an inner purification. The body releases tension and the mind relaxes. The benefits are immediate: a feeling of lightness, freer breathing, improved sleep, renewed energy... It's a holistic experience, at once physical, sensory and emotional.

Traditional massages: an ancestral art of touching

After the hammam, or independently, our guests can extend their moment of relaxation with a massage. Here too, we are committed to remaining true to the spirit of ancestral Moroccan practices. Our practitioners are trained in traditional oriental techniques, handed down from generation to generation, and use natural oils with subtle fragrances: argan oil, sesame oil, prickly pear oil or rose oil.

The massages offered go beyond simple relaxation. They aim to release energy blockages, deeply relax muscles and harmonize body flows. Gestures are enveloping, sometimes invigorating, sometimes slow and supportive. Each treatment is tailored to the individual's needs: muscle relaxation, stress relief, stimulation of circulation or physical recovery after a walk in the medina.

In Moroccan tradition, massage is also a beauty and vitality treatment. It restores radiance to the skin, warms the body and soothes the nervous system. It's as much an integral part of the local art of living as mint tea or long discussions in the shade of a fig tree.

A spa to extend the sensory experience

Riad Hanael's spa area harmoniously completes this wellness offer. In a calm, refined setting bathed in natural light and decorated in the Moorish spirit, our guests can indulge in a gentle interlude. Facial treatments based on natural products (clay, rose oil, rhassoul), body wraps and hair treatments using ghassoul or henna are also available.

Far from impersonal spas, we wanted to create a place that was intimate, warm and respectful of individual rhythms. Here, time is taken. We listen to the body's needs. We honor the beauty of every gesture, the depth of every tradition.

Reserved access and simplified online booking

To guarantee the quality of the experience and preserve the tranquility of the setting, access to the hammam, spa and swimming pool is reserved exclusively for our guests and those of Riad Hanael. Access to the pool is subject to availability, and may require a small supplement, depending on attendance.

Hammam, massage and treatment sessions can be booked online in advance, allowing our guests to plan their stay with peace of mind. This facility is particularly appreciated during peak season, when demand is high (book here).

Authentic cultural immersion

Choosing to stay at Dar 7 Louyat means not only discovering the rich heritage of Fez, a UNESCO World Heritage site, but also enjoying a traditional lifestyle that respects body and soul. Hammam, massage and natural treatments are not secondary services here, but the very heart of the Moroccan experience. They are part of a whole: architecture, hospitality, cuisine, rhythms of life, spirituality... Everything is connected.

We deeply believe that well-being is not limited to a succession of treatments, but is born of the harmony between place, gestures, materials and intentions. In this sense, our wellness center is a gateway to a deeply human, age-old culture.

Conclusion: back to true luxury - time for yourself

In today's fast-paced world, where stress has become a daily companion, taking the time to slow down, to reconnect with yourself, to let yourself be cared for by expert hands, in a place steeped in history and authenticity, is undoubtedly one of the finest forms of luxury.

Dar 7 Louyat and Riad Hanael offer you just that: a time-space away from the hustle and bustle, where the body regains its lightness, the soul rests, and every moment celebrates the beauty of a living tradition.
